Steve Hayes joined the Hometown Broadcasting team on July 15th, 1999. Steve is the station's General Manager, account executive, and MIX 99.3"Get Up and Go" Morning Show Host here at WNXT Radio.
He has been in radio for 52 years! Steve began his radio career at just fifteen years old, and left his hometown of Portsmouth to pursue his dream in major radio markets across America. Steve has been on the airwaves and following his dream in places like Huntington WV, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, Houston, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Lexington and Danville KY. But when the opportunity came up as a chance for Steve to move back home to Portsmouth, it was an offer he couldn't refuse.
Steve is a Portsmouth High School alumna. Steve said what he likes most about working in radio is that every day is different. He added that he loves being able to bring a service that people rely on for information delivered by a live human being.
His favorite radio memories are being able to spend an entire weekend with Muhammad Ali and his April Fool's joke about a replica of the Titanic coming down the Ohio River to dock at Portsmouth. This gag really made waves and people were flocking to the riverbanks to see it, then calling in to the station to find out where it was. It caused pandemonium!
Steve's favorite quote: "It's far easier to get forgiveness than permission!"
